We are considering opening an RV/Horse Camp. We are undicided where we should do this.
We are considering two different types. One would simply be a "transit" camp, catching folks as thy are driving to some horse event such as rodeos, horse shows, etc.
The other type would be a destination camp. One where folks would want to come to and ride the local area. This is actually what we favor. Each camp site would have full hook-ups for an RV, plus a small holding pen for the horses. We would probably make these pens from stock panels so they could be expanded to fit the number of animals.

Now, to my question:

Other than the obvious (a good place to ride and the fxtures) what would you look for in a good horse camp?

Should it be near a "vacation" spot like the Black Hills or the Grand Canyon or could it be out on it's own?

We are just starting on this project and appreciate any and all suggestions.

We are also open to investors or members.

I would say a place that has several different trails to take, way from the crowds. With places to visit in a vehicle in case you wanted to give your horses a day of rest, the people could drive a few miles to sight see or other touristy things. Just my 2 cents.

Good idea Hawk...I believe advertising to be of great import.

Also a spot with easy on and off access is always better than having to make u-turns or fight traffic. Nearby attractions are good for at least 2 reasons. Obviously attractions draw the interest and the crowds, but also brochure racks (seen in most motels, etc.) can then be placed at your camp, as well as at the attractions and all nearby motels for more (nearly) free advertising.

I'd also consider where local veterinarians and farriers are located and provide a list, as well as a store to sell animal food stuffs such as hay, alfalfa, and other related products like saddles and bridles.
